I'm a 13 year old girl, who majorly suffered from homesikness, and only managed to overcome it a few months back. I thought that i couldn't do it and that I'd always hate sleepovers, until i found a few ways to stop myself! These are my tips and tricks, and i hope they help! if they do, follow for more!
1) Know that it's not weird to strange to feel homesick, many many people do, from all ages and genders! Even if your friends don't mind sleepovers, there's always going to be someone out there who feels exactly the same as you do!
2) To get a bit of practise, try staying at your best friends house before you go to other peoples sleepovers( you can go round their house for the day to start with, to get yourself happy with the surroundings!
3) Bring something that reminds you of home, like a teddy or a pillow or blanket. You could bring photos of family members but I personally found that this made me feel worse and i missed them more!
4) Bring your Mum, Dad, sibling or whoever is taking you to the sleepover to the door, so that you can hie them a goodnight hug, i found this worked really well!
5) Text family members throughout the sleepover, I avoided calling because again, it made me miss them more. Text them goodnight before you go to sleep as well!
6) If you feel homesick whilst trying to get to sleep, I always think of your plans for the next day, think of something nice you could do with your family when you wake up the next morning!
7) remember that it is only 1 night out of the hundreds with your family, and once you wake up the next day, it'll all be over!
8) Stay busy! Engage in games or a movie, this often makes you sleepy so you will fall asleep quicker!
9) If you really, really miss home and you feel like you can't bare it, its okay to say you don't feel well, but avoid doing this too late because you could frustrate the host and your parents!
Hope that this helped, good luck!
xxxxx
